Boston Children’s Hospital patient, family spend day at Celtics game

02/08/2019 LINCOLN, R.I.
Fourteen-year-old Allie McMullen, of Foxborough, Massachusetts, was the guest of honor at the Boston Celtics game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday, Feb. 3, at TD Garden.
Allie and her family attended the event as part of the Amica Game Ball Program, a partnership between Amica Insurance, Boston Children’s Hospital and NBC Sports Boston. Allie, a patient at Boston Children’s Hospital, met Celtics broadcasters Kyle Draper and Brian Scalabrine, watched courtside as players from both teams warmed up, and enjoyed the game from a suite.
The Celtics did their part to make it a special afternoon, hanging on for a 134-129 win over the Thunder.
Almost a decade ago, Allie was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. But she didn’t face the diagnosis alone, as Boston Children’s Hospital’s team of experts empowered her to manage her condition and lead her best life. Now Allie is dedicated to helping others, and she’s been honored at the Massachusetts State House for her work with other newly diagnosed patients. Allie is also a member of the Celtics’ Junior Dance Team, Lil Phunk.
“Allie is an inspiration and it was a pleasure meeting her at the Celtics game,” said Vince Burks, senior assistant vice president and communications director at Amica. “The Amica Game Ball partnership has connected us with so many wonderful children and families over the years, and we’re honored to be part of this experience.”
