Auto Accident Checklist

This is a helpful checklist of what to do in the event of an accident.

  1. Contact emergency personnel (if necessary)

Call 911 for police and medical assistance, if needed. Give the police your version of what happened, and obtain the officer's name, department and incident number. Even in minor accidents, a police accident report is very helpful when dealing with other insurance companies.

  2. Stay calm

Turn on your hazard lights, and, if safe to do so, move your vehicle away from traffic. Do not leave the scene of the accident. Do not discuss who is at fault or your insurance limits.

  3. Exchange information

Write down or take a photo of the name, address, phone number and/or email address, insurance information and vehicle information of the vehicle owner. If the driver is different from the vehicle owner, write down their name, address, license number and state, date of birth, phone number and/or email address. You can also get contact information from passengers and/or witnesses.

  4. Take photos/video if safe to do so

Take photos of the accident scene, traffic controls, street names, road conditions, vehicles and other property damage to document the incident.

  5. Contact Amica promptly
