Limits:
- Homeowners: Up to $5,000 claim forgiven
- Condo: Up to $3,000 claim forgiven
- Renters: Up to $1,500 claim forgiven
Availability, limits and deductibles may vary by state and policy.
How does this coverage help?
One claim can sometimes lead to higher premiums even when it’s an isolated event. Home Claim Forgiveness features help protect the value of your claim free history by preventing an eligible loss from impacting your policy’s surcharge history.
This coverage:
- Helps prevent a qualifying loss from impacting your policy’s surcharge history.
- Applies separately to home and auto, based on each policy’s eligibility terms.
- May waive one eligible chargeable claim, subject to policy conditions.
Home Claim Forgiveness
Home Claim Forgiveness may help waive one eligible chargeable claim when:
- Five years of continuous homeowners, condo or renters coverage has been maintained directly preceding the date of the loss. Policies with another insurance company also count toward this eligibility period.
- There have been no chargeable claims on any homeowners, condo or renters policies during the five-year eligibility period.
- No other claims have been waived during the five years preceding the date of the loss.
- The claim results in payments less than the limits listed above.
Real-life scenario
Minor water home claim
A homeowner with six consecutive years of coverage experiences a small water loss to their home resulting in a $4,300 claim payout. All other conditions have been met, so this claim is waived and does not result in a surcharge.
Important information
Here are a few key details to keep in mind:
- Home, condo or renters losses exceeding the $5,000, $3,000 or $1,500 thresholds (respectively) won’t be forgiven.
- If you own multiple homes insured with Amica, only one chargeable home claim may be forgiven across all policies.
- Catastrophe (CAT) claims may affect eligibility depending on state rules (e.g., whether a CAT claim is considered chargeable in your state).
- Eligibility can depend on factors that are confirmed over time. A status of “eligible” does not guarantee a loss will be forgiven, and final determination may be made at renewal based on policy conditions.
