Single Loss Deductible
When a covered event causes damage to both your home and your car, having to pay more than one deductible can add to the financial stress. Single Loss Deductible coverage helps simplify your out-of-pocket costs when multiple policies are affected by the same loss.
Included with: All Amica accounts with an auto policy and either a homeowners, condo or renters policy of any level
Availability, limits and deductibles may vary by state and policy.
How does this coverage help?
In most cases, homeowners are responsible for the deductibles for each policy they carry.
This coverage:
- Applies when a single covered event on the same date of loss causes damage under both your auto and homeowners, condo or renters policies.
- Limits you to one deductible instead of separate ones from each policy.
- You pay the single highest deductible that applies to the covered losses.
When this coverage applies
This coverage applies when:
- The loss is insured under both policies
- The damage is caused by the same single covered event
- The combined loss exceeds the highest deductible
Real-life scenarios
Severe storm
A severe windstorm causes damage to both a homeowner’s roof and their parked vehicle on the same day.
Fallen trees
A tree falls and damages a homeowner’s garage and their parked vehicle during the same incident.
Careless driver
An uninsured driver veers off the roadway and onto a homeowner’s property, causing damage to both a parked policy vehicle and the fence.
What doesn’t change
- It doesn’t increase the policy limits.
- It doesn’t impact the amount you would receive for repairs on a covered claim.
- It doesn’t apply to losses caused by earthquakes, mine subsidence, flood or volcanic eruption. In these cases, you may still be responsible for all applicable deductibles.
Is this coverage right for you?
Single Loss Deductible coverage can be a good fit if you want to keep costs simpler when one covered incident affects both your vehicle and your home.
It may be a good fit if:
- You have (or are considering) an Amica auto policy and a homeowners, condo or renters policy
- You want to avoid paying two separate deductibles when the same covered event damages both your car and your property
- You prefer predictable out-of-pocket costs after a loss and like the idea of paying only the single highest deductible that applies
