Included with: Signature homeowners policies

Limits: Up to $20,000. This coverage does not increase any other limits in the policy.

Availability, limits and deductibles may vary by state and policy.

How does this coverage help?

After a covered loss, repairs may restore function, but they don’t always restore your home’s original look. This coverage helps when replacing only the damaged area would leave a noticeable mismatch. This coverage:

  • Helps pay the reasonable cost to replace or match undamaged roof surfacing (shingles, wood shakes, slate, tile or metal paneling) or siding when part of it is damaged.
  • Applies when matching materials are needed to achieve a reasonably uniform appearance.
  • Meant to utilize materials of like kind and quality, subject to the coverage limit shown on the declarations page.
  • A uniform appearance may help maintain your home’s value and selling potential. It may also be a requirement of some HOAs.

Plan comparison

  • Essential homeowners – Payment based on Actual Cash Value (depreciation deducted) for roof and siding caused by windstorm or hail.
  • Advantage homeowners – Payment based on Replacement Cost Value (no deduction for depreciation) for roof and siding damage.
  • Signature homeowners – Payment based on Replacement Cost Value (no deduction for depreciation) with matching roof and siding protection (up to $20,000).

Real-life scenarios

Discontinued roof materials

Part of a homeowner’s tile roof is damaged in a covered loss, and the same tiles are no longer manufactured. The cost to replace the entire roof to achieve a uniform appearance is $18,500. This coverage will offer additional coverage to replace all roof tiles, ensuring a uniform appearance.

Siding mismatch after a wind loss

A covered wind loss damages part of a home’s siding. The original siding is no longer available, and replacing only the damaged area would result in a noticeable mismatch. The cost to replace all siding is $25,000. This endorsement would cover $20,000 out of the total $25,000 to replace the siding.

Important information

  • The roof surface and/or siding must have matched at the time of loss.
  • The damage must be caused by a covered event under the policy.
  • This coverage is intended for situations where repaired or replaced materials do not match the existing undamaged materials well enough to create a reasonably uniform appearance.
  • This coverage does not increase other policy limits and does not apply to other building materials unless required by statute.
