LINCOLN, R.I. – (Aug. 24, 2026) – Amica Mutual Insurance Company today announced that Sean Welch, Senior Vice President and Chief Claims Officer, will retire at the end of the year following an extraordinary 41-year career with the company. Effective Dec. 1, Acel Silva will succeed Welch in the role.

Throughout his tenure, Welch has played a pivotal role in shaping Amica’s Claims organization, earning the respect of both colleagues and customers through his expertise, steady leadership and unwavering commitment to service. Known for his empathy, strong people skills and genuine care for others, he has helped strengthen Amica's customer-first claims experience while acting as a mentor for generations of leaders across the company.

"Sean's impact on Amica extends far beyond the Claims department," said Ted Shallcross III, Amica’s Chairman, President and CEO. "For four decades, he has exemplified the values that define our company, and we are deeply grateful for his remarkable contributions and the lasting legacy he’ll be leaving behind.”

Acel Silva brings more than 20 years of leadership experience in the property and casualty insurance industry to his new role. Since joining Amica in 2003 as an Associate Claims Adjuster, Silva has advanced through virtually every level of Amica’s Claims organization. Over the course of his career, he has held increasingly broad leadership roles spanning claims operations, compliance, customer experience, analytics, technology transformation and organizational development.

As Senior Vice President and Chief Claims Officer, Silva will oversee Amica's Claims organization and lead its continued success delivering exceptional customer service while advancing operational excellence and innovation. His collaborative leadership style, deep business knowledge and understanding of technological advancements position him to lead the department into its next chapter and help shape the future of claims at Amica.

“It’s an incredible honor to succeed a colleague like Sean and to be entrusted with advancing the future of Amica’s Claims organization,” said Silva. “Sean’s 41-year tenure is emblematic of the kind of company culture that Amica creates. A culture grounded in empathy, excellence and exceptional customer service. Those pillars carry through in our work with policyholders and team members every day, and they’re a meaningful part of Sean’s legacy. I’m excited to build upon that strong foundation as I step into this new role.”
