Rhode Island Blood Center Honors 35-Year Partnership With Amica Insurance

Amica Insurance and Rhode Island Blood Center hold their 232nd blood drive

LINCOLN, RI – Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC) hosted a blood drive at Amica Insurance on Wednesday, Aug. 26, to celebrate 35 years of partnership between the organizations. During that time, Amica has hosted 231 blood drives, with 11,549 presenting donors and 10,414 donations collected for patients in need.

RIBC declared a blood emergency last month after the blood supply reached its lowest level since the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, blood centers nationwide are also sounding the alarm. The American Red Cross has declared only the second national blood crisis in its history, underscoring the challenges blood providers across the country are facing.

“We appreciate being a part of RIBC’s lifesaving work,” said Amica Chairman, President and CEO Ted Shallcross. “Blood donation has become a meaningful tradition at Amica, so this recognition belongs to the Amica employees who have rolled up their sleeves year after year to help patients in need.”

The milestone was marked with a recognition ceremony honoring Amica’s longstanding commitment to supporting the local blood supply. Sam Palmisano, Chief Operating Officer, shared “We’re proud to celebrate 35 years of partnership. We want to thank our employees and everyone else in the community who takes the time and makes the effort to give blood.” Scott Boyd, Amica Senior Vice President of Human Resource, also acknowledged Amica employee efforts. “Blood donation is a simple but really powerful tool.  Our employees are the ones that make this happen, inspiring and encouraging their colleagues.  We hope this milestone helps inspire new donors,” said Boyd.

“For 35 years, Amica and its employees have played an important role in helping ensure patients in our community have access to lifesaving blood,” said Nicole Pineault, Executive Director, Operations at Rhode Island Blood Center. “We’re incredibly grateful for their continued partnership and the countless patients and families they have helped through their commitment to blood donation.”

Rhode Island Blood Center is urging all eligible donors, especially those with type O blood, to schedule an appointment as soon as possible. Blood donors can give every 56 days, and platelet donors up to twice each month. Recent FDA eligibility updates also mean more people than ever may now be eligible to donate.
