Our History
1907 – The Automobile Mutual Insurance Company of America is founded in Providence by A.T. Vigneron. It offers automotive, fire and theft insurance.
1914 – The Factory Mutual Liability Insurance Company of America is chartered for the purpose of providing liability insurance to Automobile Mutual policyholders.
1941 – Amica opens its first branch office in Boston.
1956 – Amica begins issuing homeowners insurance. It later added marine and umbrella insurance.
1969 - Amica Life is incorporated.
1973 – Automobile Mutual and Factory Mutual are merged to form a more efficient corporate identity.
1994 – Amica's corporate offices move from Providence to Lincoln, Rhode Island.
2007 – Amica celebrates its 100th anniversary.
2019 – Amica Life celebrates its 50th year in business. Now licensed in all states, the company offers high-value products and outstanding service to ensure policyholders have the peace of mind that comes with knowing their loved ones are protected.
2022 – Edmund Shallcross III is elected Amica's president and chief executive officer.
