Amica Launches New Program to Help Homeowners Prevent Water Damage

Eligible policyholders can receive a Flume Smart Home Water Monitor at no cost along with three years of leak monitoring service

LINCOLN, R.I. — Oct. 7, 2026 — Amica Insurance announced a new program that provides policyholders with access to a smart leak detection monitoring service.

Under the expanded partnership with Flume, eligible Amica home policyholders, in participating markets, can enroll to receive a no-cost Flume Smart Home Water Monitor. The system can be installed on their home's existing water meter in just minutes and requires no plumbing modifications. Along with the sensor, Amica will provide three years of leak monitoring service from Flume.

"At Amica, we're committed to helping our customers protect what matters most," said Amica Chairman, President and CEO Ted Shallcross. "By offering this service to our policyholders, we're providing a simple, proactive way to identify potential water problems early."

Water damage from plumbing leaks like frozen pipes, dripping faucets, and overflows from sinks and tubs remain some of the most common and costly causes of homeowners insurance claims. Amica data shows that 1 in 60 policyholders has a non-weather water loss every year, with the average claim exceeding $21,000. By providing early leak detection and real-time water monitoring, the program is designed to help homeowners identify issues before they become major losses.

Flume's technology continuously monitors water activity throughout the home and sends real-time alerts through a mobile app when unusual water usage is detected. The system can identify everything from small continuous leaks, such as running toilets and dripping fixtures, to major plumbing failures.

Flume analyzes trillions of water usage data points each year from the hundreds of thousands of homes it protects across the United States. Homes using Flume experienced a 60% reduction in water damage claim frequency and a 24% reduction in claim severity, according to a recent study of insurance carriers. Among confirmed leaks detected by Flume, 83% would have gone undetected for a longer period of time, and 77.5% were identified within one day.

"We're excited to support Amica's commitment to helping policyholders prevent water damage before it happens," said Eric Adler, Founder and CEO of Flume. "Early leak detection is one of the most effective ways to reduce water damage risk. By combining real-time monitoring, advanced analytics and proactive homeowner engagement, we're helping homeowners identify problems sooner and avoid costly repairs."

Policyholders who enroll in the program receive:

  • One Flume Smart Home Water Monitor per eligible home
  • Three years of leak monitoring and notification service provided by Flume
  • Real-time leak and abnormal water usage alerts through the Flume mobile app
  • Continuous monitoring for hidden leaks, plumbing failures and unusual water activity
  • Water usage insights that help homeowners better understand household consumption

This limited program is available to Amica home policyholders in participating markets. Additional information regarding eligibility and enrollment will be provided directly to qualifying customers. Policyholders located in other states not eligible for this program may still be eligible to purchase a Flume device at a discounted rate through our partnership with Flume.
