LINCOLN, R.I. - Sixteen-year-old Connor Garland of Belgrade, Maine, attended the Boston Celtics game against the Miami Heat on Feb. 1, courtesy of Amica Insurance, Boston Children’s Hospital and Comcast SportsNet New England. Garland met Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn, watched courtside as players from both teams warmed up and enjoyed the game from a suite at TD Garden.

Garland, a patient at Boston Children’s Hospital, attended the game with his family as guests of the Amica Game Ball program. Through the program, Amica has also donated $218,000 to Boston Children’s Hospital during the last six seasons.

Garland, who plays basketball and baseball at Messalonskee High School in Oakland, Maine, sustained multiple injuries after a hayride accident on Oct. 11. Due to the severity of his injuries, Garland was transported from a hospital in Maine to Boston Children’s Hospital in the middle of the night. Garland and his family are grateful for the doctors and the care they received while at Boston Children’s Hospital.

“This experience has been completely overwhelming – the generosity and the way we’ve been treated are amazing,” Bill Garland, Connor’s father, said of attending the Celtics game. “It’s been a long road for Connor, and we’ve been looking forward to this forever. Getting him well was the main goal, and this was a good way to help him along.”

“We really enjoyed meeting Connor and his family at the Celtics game,” said Vince Burks, communications director at Amica Insurance. “It was nice to see him smile, especially considering what he’s been through.”
