LINCOLN, R.I. – Amica Insurance was recognized with an Exemplary Worksite Health Award from Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) and the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) for effective programs encouraging employee health and well-being in a meaningful way.

“Wellness is embedded in Amica’s culture, and we work to ensure that the healthy choice is the easy choice,” said Jean Tapley, senior wellness coordinator at Amica. “We’re honored to receive this award, but the true reward is the improved health and well-being of our employees.”

Amica was one of more than 75 Rhode Island businesses to which BCBSRI and the GPCC distributed Worksite Health Awards at a breakfast attended by hundreds of state business leaders. The event recognized local businesses and employees who have demonstrated commitment to fixing the healthcare system together through greater health and wellness measures, as companies and as individuals.

Amica offers employees subsidized healthy food choices, an onsite fitness center and beautiful wooded walking/running trails. Other wellness initiatives include health coaching, massage therapy, Weight Watchers at work and sit/stand workstations.

“We are proud to recognize Amica for committing to the health of their employees by investing in wellness programming,” said Peter Andruszkiewicz, president and CEO of BCBSRI. “Employers play a critical role in efforts to improve the health of Rhode Islanders and lower healthcare costs. Worksite wellness programs help us attain these goals while also boosting employee performance and creating stronger organizations. We applaud this year’s Worksite Health Award recipients. Each organization is a testament to wellness that works.”

“The business community plays a critical role in improving the health of Rhode Islanders, and we applaud Amica for making the commitment to invest in the wellness of their team,” said Laurie White, president of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce. “Amica and the other businesses recognized through the Worksite Health Awards set a positive example for the larger business community, and we encourage other companies to follow their lead.”
