LINCOLN, R.I. - Amica Insurance and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) collected more than 35,000 food items during Gobble Games 2016, a charitable giving initiative to benefit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank.
Between Tuesday, Nov. 1, and Friday, Nov. 18, the two companies squared off in a friendly challenge to see who could collect the most food items. BCBSRI collected 22,000 items and Amica collected 13,009 items, which totaled more than 26,000 pounds of food. Those items were then donated to the Food Bank so that Rhode Island families in need of food assistance could enjoy a warm meal this holiday season.
“I continue to be amazed by what we can accomplish when we work together,” said Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and CEO of Amica. “I want to sincerely thank everyone for making a difference in our community during this important time of year.”
“The Gobble Games are a creative, meaningful and fun way to kick off the holiday season while supporting our neighbors in need,” said Kim A. Keck, president and CEO of BCBSRI. “My sincerest thanks go out to everyone who donated items and continued the success of this great tradition.”
BCBSRI started the Gobble Games in 2013 as a way to engage and activate employees around the issue of hunger in Rhode Island. Since then, the program has collected more than 71,000 items.
“The Food Bank is so thankful for the amazing response from the employees of Amica Insurance and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island during this year’s Gobble Games,” said Andrew Schiff, CEO of the Food Bank. “All of this food will have a tremendous impact on our neighbors in need this holiday season.”
