Amica’s 2015 Thanksgiving card features work by Cape Cod artist

11/06/2015

LINCOLN, R.I. - An oil painting by Cape Cod artist Elizabeth Lazeren graces the cover of Amica Insurance’s annual Thanksgiving card, which will be mailed to more than 776,000 customers across the country this month.

Lazeren’s painting, entitled “Salt Haven,” features an iconic Cape scene of a salt marsh and expansive sky in the late fall. She is an artist member of the Copley Society of Art, in Boston, Massachusetts, and she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford. For many years, she taught art classes in Connecticut public schools while showing her work at area galleries.

After she and her husband, Bob Daglio, raised their three children, they moved to Truro, Massachusetts, on Cape Cod, where Lazeren had spent many childhood summers “clamming the flats, fishing, wandering the dunes and drawing what I saw.” Today, her artwork is represented by several galleries and is part of the collection at the Cape Cod Museum of Art.

“I was excited to have my painting chosen for Amica’s annual Thanksgiving card,” said Lazeren, an Amica customer. “I try to capture the feeling of this place that I love so much. [The painting depicts] the beauty of late afternoon in the fall when the sunlight is breaking through the clouds. How can I not be inspired by what I have here?”

Lazeren’s painting was unveiled in a short ceremony on Friday at Amica’s corporate headquarters. It will hang in Amica’s art gallery, which is filled with other paintings that have appeared on the holiday card since the tradition began in 1971.

“Thanksgiving is the perfect time of year to thank our customers for choosing Amica,” said Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Amica. “We hope the card reminds people to be grateful for the security and beauty in their own lives – especially in today’s world.”
