LINCOLN, R.I. - Doug Brooks, an Amica Insurance customer from Atlanta, Georgia, recently completed his 90th career half marathon, one of four events held at the Amica Insurance Seattle Marathon on Nov. 27.
Brooks clocked a time of 1:53:39, finishing 727th overall in the half marathon. He was also the 79th finisher in his age group.
“I started running about five years ago, with 5Ks and 10Ks, and slowly worked up to longer distances,” said Brooks, who has been an Amica customer for the past three years. “After running my first half marathon, I thought there was absolutely no way that I would ever run another one.”
But Brooks stuck with it, and before long, he was racking up medals from races all over the world – from Carlsbad, California, to London, England. One of his most memorable races was the Wrightsville Beach Half Marathon in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, an event that his late father loved watching.
“Running has taught me a lot about determination and perseverance,” said Brooks, who trains and races with his wife, Meg. “It’s hard to believe that I’m at race No. 90, and to be in Seattle for the Amica-sponsored event was awesome.”
Brooks wasn’t the only one to have a strong showing in Seattle.
Kota Reichert, of Alameda, California, won the full marathon, crossing the tape in 2:33:57. The first female finisher in the full marathon was Amber Morrison, of Bellingham, Washington, with a time of 2:55:09.
Joe Gladow, of Edmonds, Washington, won the half-marathon run in a time of 1:11:24, while Courtney Olsen, of Bellingham, Washington was the top female finisher in that event with a time of 1:21:23.
