Amica Insurance coat drive at skating center donates more than 600 Coats

LINCOLN, RI – Amica Insurance is pleased to announce that a coat drive held in cooperation with the Newport Yachting Center resulted in the collection of more than 600 coats to be donated to the St. Joseph’s Food Kitchen of Newport.
The Amica Insurance Coat Drive was held from Dec. 9 to Jan. 29 at the Newport Skating Center, as well as at Amica’s corporate headquarters in Lincoln. This year’s coat drive resulted in triple the amount of coats collected during last year’s coat drive.
"On behalf of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Joseph Kitchen, let me extend our sincere appreciation everyone for your recent donation of new and gently used winter coats. We were overwhelmed, in a good way, by the quantity and quality of the coats we received,” said Eileen Dufault, president of St. Joseph’s Food Kitchen. “Because of the thoughtfulness and kindness of you, Amica Insurance and the Newport Skating Center, we were able to provide coats to individuals and entire families. Thank you for making this winter much warmer for our clients and the community we serve.”
Since 1983, St. Joseph’s Soup Kitchen has served approximately 8,000 meals per year. Doors are open each Monday from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. to those in need of a hot nourishing meal or warm clothing. The soup kitchen reports in this trying economic time that meal service is up 15 to 20 percent over the past few years.
