Amica coat drive at skating center in Newport starts tomorrow

LINCOLN, RI – Amica Insurance is launching its annual coat drive at the Sovereign Bank Family Skating Center in Newport on Saturday. Anyone who donates a new or gently-used coat will receive two-for-one admission to the skating center.

Coats will be collected through Jan. 11. All coats will be donated to the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center, a multi-service agency providing a wide variety of human services and enrichment activities to the residents of Newport County.

Amica also is sponsoring Amica Family Fun Nights each Thursday during the skating season, with discounted admission. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, and each admission includes a free cup of hot chocolate, courtesy of Amica Insurance.

The Sovereign Bank Family Skating Center, located at the Newport Yachting Center on America’s Cup Avenue, features a 9,000-square-foot skating surface large enough to accommodate up to 150 skaters at a time. The rink also features free parking, skate rentals, hot beverages and comfort foods, lighting for night skating, regular admission discounts, a warming room and viewing spaces for the public. Skate sharpening is available for $5.
