Amica Establishes Hitchen Scholarship at Barrington's St. Andrew's School

LINCOLN, RHODE ISLAND - Amica Mutual Insurance Company has established a $100,000 perpetual scholarship fund at St. Andrew's School in Barrington. The fund is named in honor of Harold Hitchen, Jr., an Amica retiree who ended his career as the company's Treasurer and Chief Financial Officer.

A 1951 St. Andrew's graduate, Mr. Hitchen served on the School's Board of Trustees for more than 33 years. Amica announced the scholarship as Mr. Hitchen retired from the Board.

Mr. Hitchen, an East Greenwich resident, worked for Amica for 45 years. He began working in the company's stockroom after graduating from St. Andrew's, and, while working, earned a bachelor's degree and a master's in business administration from the University of Rhode Island.

St. Andrew's School is a non-denominational boarding and day school situated on a 100-acre campus. Since 1893, the school has embraced social and economic diversity, offering a generous, need-based financial aid program. St Andrew's believes all children learn differently and seeks to identify students' individual learning styles, teaching according to those strengths.
