Providence, RI - The Tomorrow Fund is pleased to announce that it has received $2,097 from the proceeds of the Amica Insurance Carnevale at WaterFire Providence. In addition to the donation, Amica Insurance hosted a Tomorrow Fund family as VIP guests during the August 2 event.
As the evening's lead sponsor of Amica's Carnevale at WaterFire Providence for the fourth consecutive year, Amica Insurance employees helped to create the old-world feel of Venice, Italy. Special masks were sold to benefit The Tomorrow Fund, the only non-profit organization that provides daily financial and emotional support to children with cancer who are treated at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence and their families. WaterFire attendees donned these masks and paraded through WaterFire to add to the evening's festivities.
"I can't believe I'm here! I feel like I'm dreaming," whispered Grace Carey as she and her mother, Rebekah Ham, were treated to a VIP boat ride by Amica during the WaterFire celebration
Grace was diagnosed with a brain tumor in September of 2007. "The Tomorrow Fund was a great help to us," said Ham, "especially during Grace's radiation treatment at the Mass General Proton Center in Boston, which provides treatment that is cutting edge."
"Amica Insurance feels strongly about giving back to our communities," said Patti Genovese, a member of Amica's sponsorship team. "Being given the opportunity to spend the evening with Grace and her mother and to share in their excitement really makes you realize what we take for granted in our own lives."
The Tomorrow Fund was founded in 1985 to ease the traumatic emotional and financial effects of childhood cancer. Its founders - a group that included doctors, child life specialists, and parents of children with cancer - recognized that, in addition to the very best in medical care, children with cancer and their families need and deserve financial and emotional assistance to cope with the overwhelming challenges of this insidious disease.
