Amica 19.7 Tellico Sprint Triathlon set for Sunday

PROVIDENCE, RI –Triathletes ranging from 12 to 75 years old and representing nearly a dozen states will converge at Tellico Dam Recreation Area on Sunday, July 18, to compete in the Amica 19.7 Tellico Sprint Triathlon.

The Amica 19.7 Tellico Sprint Triathlon is part of the 2010 Amica 19.7 Triathlon Series, a sprint distance series of events held throughout the country. It is the third stop of Amica's 10-event series, which culminates in Phoenix, AZ, in November.

Sunday’s triathlon features a half-mile swim, 16.1-mile bike and 3.1-mile run. The swim takes place in Tellico Lake. The bike course is along the Tellico Parkway, looping Davis Ferry and Maple Hill Roads. The course has rolling hills and wide shoulders. The run course covers roads and paths around and along Tellico Dam.

The Amica Tellico 19.7 Sprint is also a USAT Southeastern Region Junior Development Team event. Some of the top youth triathletes in the region will compete in the Amica Tellico 19.7 Sprint, using this event as a practice for Olympic-style races.

The Amica Tellico 19.7 Triathlon begins at 7:30 a.m.
