Amica Insurance sponsorship and new events highlight annual race
SIMSBURY, CT – The charming streets of Simsbury, CT, will be filled with runners on June 6 for the Amica Insurance Iron Horse Half Marathon and 10K and 5K races. More than 1,700 runners, walkers and children are expected to participate in the annual event produced by the Hartford Marathon Foundation.
Amica Insurance is continuing as lead sponsor, which enables race organizers to offer exciting new elements to the eighth annual event. A new Kids K race will be run with the 5K (3.1 miles), 10K (6.2 miles) and half marathon (13.1 miles).
The Amica Insurance Iron Horse Half Marathon has quickly grown into an area tradition, attracting hundreds of new participants each year. Runners eager to hit the streets after the winter welcome the challenge of this event, and participants and spectators enjoy the festive atmosphere.
“Once again, Amica is thrilled to be an integral part of this fantastic race,” said Meghan Palumbo, senior sponsorship specialist at Amica Insurance. “As the athletes run the eighth annual Amica Insurance Iron Horse Half Marathon, we’ll be right here cheering them on. We know how much hard work and dedication goes into training for this day and Amica wants to wish all of the runners a great race.”
The event has something for spectators as well as runners. Live entertainment at the Simsbury Meadows Bandshell, an exciting finish line and the “Kids Fitness World” will entertain runners and spectators of all ages.
“The Kids Fitness World began last year to showcase of local organizations that offer innovative fitness activities specifically geared for youth to help kids find fun ways to get exercise and be fit,” said Beth Shluger, race director.
Start time for the 10K is 7:30 a.m. and for the 5K and the Half Marathon begin at 7:45 a.m. from the intersection of Drake Hill and Iron Horse Boulevard. The Kids K begins at 10:30 a.m. near the Simsbury Meadows Bandshell. All races travel on the quiet roads along the Farmington River and on the paved bike path in Simsbury. Roads used include Drake Hill, Riverside, Terry’s Plain, Quarry Road, Route 315 and Iron Horse Boulevard. Prizes will be awarded to winning racers in each age/gender category.
