Newport Added to 2010 Amica 19.7 Sprint Triathlon Series

LINCOLN, RI – Triathletes will take over Newport on Sept. 25 for the newest race addition to the Amica
19.7 Triathlon Series, a series of 10 sprint distance triathlons held throughout the country.

The Amica 19.7 Newport Triathlon will feature a half-mile swim at Third Beach in Middletown, followed by a 16.1-mile bike ride and a 3.1-mile run. The course details are currently being finalized and will be announced in the coming weeks.

"With its stunning backdrop showcasing the ocean, Newport is a perfect setting for this sprint triathlon," said Ray Botelho, a professional triathlete and Newport native. "I am looking forward to competing in my hometown and certainly encourage others to join me in Newport. It's going to be a great event."

The 2010 Amica 19.7 Sprint Triathlon Series kicks off in May with the Amica 19.7 TexasMan Triathlon in Dallas, TX, and concludes in November with the Amica 19.7 Phoenix Triathlon.
