Amica donates more to Haitian relief efforts

LINCOLN, R.I. – Amica Insurance has increased its donation for the Haitian relief efforts to $50,000.

The company had donated $10,000 to the American Red Cross, Rhode Island chapter, immediately after a catastrophic earthquake shattered the Haitian capital of Port-Au-Prince. But in light of the devastation caused by the quake, Amica donated an additional $40,000 to the Red Cross for a total of $50,000.

That's in addition to donations by individual employees, which the company will match by donating $1.50 for every $1 donated by employees.

"As the stories of the death and devastation fill our television screens and newspapers, we join the world community in offering support and hope for Haiti's future," said Robert A. DiMuccio, chairman, president and CEO of Amica Insurance. "I've also been heartened by the countless demonstrations of the strength of the human spirit to persevere in the face of unthinkable pain and adversity."

If you would like to help, the Red Cross continues to report that the best way is to make a donation to the American Red Cross International Response Fund at redcross.org or by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS. Donors can designate that their gifts be used for Haiti relief.
