Amica Insurance's James Loring earns top CFO award

LINCOLN, RI – James P. Loring, chief financial officer at Amica Insurance, was one of nine individuals honored last night as part of the Providence Business News’ third annual Chief Financial Officer Awards program.

Loring earned the distinction of top CFO for a large private company with more than 150 employees. He received his award at a dinner at Bryant University’s Bello Center.

“One of Jim’s strengths is that he sees the business holistically,” said Bob DiMuccio, Amica’s chairman, president and chief executive officer. “He’s not just a numbers person – he understands how the business works. He is able to interpret financial data in ways that help the people who operate the business do their jobs better and more efficiently.”

Prior to arriving at Amica in July of 2010, Loring served as senior vice president and chief financial officer at Savings Bank Life Insurance of Massachusetts (SBLI) in Woburn, Mass. In addition to his time at SBLI, Loring also has worked for Sun Life Financial, The Hanover Group and Pricewaterhouse Coopers, acquiring more than 20 years of experience in the insurance industry.

“Working at Amica has always been a natural fit for me,” Loring said. “During my career, I have always focused on quality service, and at Amica, we deliver exceptional service to our policyholders every day.”

Loring, who lives in Hopkinton, Mass., has a master’s degree in actuarial science from Boston University and a master’s degree in business administration from Clark University. He also has earned his Certified Public Accounting (CPA) and his Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designations.

Other CFOs honored by the Providence Business News included David M. Denton of CVS Caremark Corp. (public company headquartered in Rhode Island), Brian Hennessey of People’s Credit Union (midsize company with between 75 and 150 employees) and Christopher J. Ready of DiPrete Engineering Associates Inc. (small private company with fewer than 75 employees). Irene McCormick of The College Crusade of Rhode Island (nonprofit social service agency), Mike Hudson of Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (nonprofit in health care, higher education or other), Ernest Zymslinski of the City of Warwick (government/quasi-government) and Lynda Gilbert of CareLink (rising star) also received awards at the dinner.
