Prepare for camping trips with Amica’s first-aid kit checklist
LINCOLN, R.I. - As the warmer weather sets in, many people will go on camping trips. While camping is perfect for a peaceful weekend getaway, Amica Insurance is helping you prepare for the unexpected.
The American Camp Association reports that most injuries sustained while camping are minor sprains (35 percent), but more serious injuries, like fractures, burns and wounds, can occur. That’s why Amica is sharing this first-aid kit checklist from the American Red Cross to promote camping safety:
• Absorbent compress dressings
• Adhesive bandages
• Roll of adhesive cloth tape
• Antiseptic wipes
• Instant cold compress
• Ibuprofen or aspirin
• Nonlatex gloves
• Antibiotic, burn and itch cream
• Personal medications
• Gauze pads
• Oral thermometer (nonmercury/nonglass)
• Small flashlight with backup batteries
• First-aid instruction booklet
According to the 2012 American Camper report, nearly 43 million Americans went camping in 2011, and that number is growing annually. Go join the fun and enjoy the great outdoors, but stay safe out there.
