LINCOLN, RI - The Amica $75,000 Community Challenge, a month-long charity event partnering Amica Insurance with the Rhode Island Community Food Bank, United Way of Rhode Island and Crossroads Rhode Island, ended on March 3. It raised more than $196,000, once again surpassing the initial goal of $150,000.

The Challenge encouraged people and businesses in the community to make donations to the three charitable organizations from Feb. 4 through March 3. Amica guaranteed to match those donations, dollar for dollar, up to $25,000 per charity. The charities were chosen with three basic human needs in mind: food (Rhode Island Community Food Bank), heat (United Way of Rhode Island) and housing (Crossroads Rhode Island).

"It's been a pleasure to once again partner with these outstanding organizations to help the less fortunate among us," said Bob DiMuccio, president, chairman and CEO of Amica Insurance. "On behalf of Amica Insurance, I would like to thank everyone who donated to the Challenge during this difficult winter."

Representatives from the charitable organizations also expressed their gratitude.

"We were overwhelmed by the generosity of our Rhode Island community, who really stepped up to support us during the Amica Challenge," said Andrew Schiff, chief executive officer of the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. "The matching $25,000 grant, along with the donations from our supporters, will enable us to acquire more than 150,000 pounds of food for families in need."

"This winter's bitter cold has created the perfect storm for thousands of local families struggling with the rising costs to heat their homes and cuts to heating-assistance programs that provide much-needed aid when times are tough," said Anthony Maione, president and CEO of United Way of Rhode Island. "Amica's generosity and the outpouring of support from the community provide critical assistance for people in need."

"Thanks to the Amica Challenge, we more than doubled our donations, which will enable us to secure stable housing for families and individuals experiencing homelessness," said Anne Nolan, president of Crossroads Rhode Island. "We're grateful to Amica for its continued generosity and commitment to our community, and for caring about the needs of our neighbors who are less fortunate – particularly during this time of year."
