PawSox and Amica team up to sponsor baseball championships
PAWTUCKET, RI – Five high school baseball teams visited McCoy Stadium this afternoon in advance of the R.I. Interscholastic League Division I and Division II championship series, which are sponsored by the Pawtucket Red Sox and Amica Insurance.
Bishop Hendricken and North Kingstown will meet in the Division I finals, with Game 1 slated for tomorrow at 6:30 p.m. Narragansett will square off against either Chariho or Westerly in the Division II finals, which begin tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. The two best-of-three series will run through Thursday, if necessary. For the complete schedule, visit the RIIL’s website at www.riil.org.
“I’d like to congratulate all the teams that are here,” said Tom Mezzanotte, executive director of the RIIL. “This is a wonderful opportunity for the RIIL to have teams come down and play at this beautiful facility.”
“On behalf of the entire PawSox staff, we want you to know how thrilled we are to have you here,” said Lou Schwechheimer, vice president and general manager of the PawSox. “We know how hard you worked to get here, and we will honor that effort by doing the best we can for you during the next few days.”
The five teams were treated to a barbecue and had a chance to walk on the field afterwards. It was an experience that will only get better as the games get under way.
“This is a good day – make sure you enjoy it,” said Matt Lazzareschi, a senior sponsorship specialist with Amica. “You’ll remember playing here for the rest of your life. On behalf of Amica, we wish you the best of luck.”
Amica would also like to congratulate the high school softball teams from Lincoln (Division I), North Providence (Division II) and Narragansett (Division III), which all captured titles this season.
