Amica Companies Foundation donates $22,500 to RI Free Clinic
LINCOLN, RI – The Amica Companies Foundation has awarded the Rhode Island Free Clinic a three-year $22,500 grant to help the clinic purchase computers and software needed to better serve Rhode Islanders who have no medical insurance.
“We’re very appreciative of the tremendous support Amica has provided to the clinic,” said Marie Ghazal, CEO of the clinic. “This money will help us be more efficient so that we can continue to see all of the people on our existing caseload and expand the number of people that we provide free healthcare to.”
The Rhode Island Free Clinic, which is based on Broad Street in Providence, provides comprehensive health care services to about 2,000 Rhode Islanders who currently have no medical insurance, Ghazal said. The clinic’s eight-member staff coordinates a team of about 750 volunteers, including doctors, nurses and others, who handled nearly 8,000 patient visits this past year.
“The new computers and software will help with medical records, scheduling and patient flow, helping to improve the efficiency of the clinic,” Ghazal said.
Bill Fitzgerald, a senior assistant vice president with Amica Insurance and secretary of the clinic’s board of directors, said, “Amica is proud to support such an important organization that benefits our community. Amica’s grant will enhance the services that the physicians provide to their patients, which is the ultimate goal the clinic.”
