Amica sponsors RIIL softball championship
LINCOLN, RI – Seven high school softball teams will be competing at Rhode Island College for the Amica Insurance Rhode Island Interscholastic League girls’ softball championships.
Cranston West High School, Cumberland High School and Mount St. Charles Academy are competing for the Division I title, while the Prout School and East Greenwich, Middletown and Portsmouth high schools are competing for the Division II title. On June 5, Central High School of Providence beat Central Falls High School for the Division III title.
“Congratulations to all the athletes who started playing and working hard way back in March,” said Mike Lunney, assistant director of the Rhode Island Interscholastic League. “To get to this point is a really special thing. Your hard work and dedication has really paid off.”
Coaches, players and school officials representing each team were treated to breakfast at Rhode Island College before a news conference earlier today.
Matt Lazzareschi, sponsorship specialist with Amica, noted that all the teams, including the coaches, worked hard this season to make it to the championship series. “This is one of those things you’ll remember for the rest of your lives, so take the time to enjoy it and play hard like you have all season,” he said.
The playoffs will run through Monday. For the complete game schedule, visit the Rhode Island Interscholastic League’s website, www.riil.org.
